Around 40 employees of JLT Thailand waded out into the muddy waters of Bangpoo Industrial Estate in Samut Prakarn province on Thai Environment Day (4 December 2009) to plant 200 mangrove tree saplings. They were guided by members of the Plant-a-Tree Today (PATT) Organisation. Read more
Support in Bangkok For International Climate Change Day

An international day of action to raise awareness on climate change took place in Bangkok recently. The driver behind the events is 350.org, an international campaign dedicated to uniting the world in the search for solutions to the climate crisis. The name “350″ refers to the maximum desired level of Co2 in the atmosphere. Currently the level is 387 parts per million. There were over 5,200 actions planned for this day in over 181 countries. Thailand: Crown Relocations Combats Climate Change

Crown Relocations UK, an international relocation and transportation specialist, plans to plant more than 2,200 trees in Thailand which will capture over 1,800 metric tons of carbon (equivalent to the annual CO2 emissions from nearly 125 UK households) to combat climate change. The programme, in collaboration with the Plant-A-Tree Today (PATT) Foundation, is an attempt to offset the carbon emissions from its UK facilities by planting trees. Read more

While South-East Asia might be slow on the uptake, sustainable and responsible investment (SRI) is fast becoming the financial trend in the West. According to Reuters, fund manager RCM states that such investments “offer a unique diversifying opportunity”. SRI is an approach designed to pick companies which manage environmental, social and governance (ESG) risks.
As an illustration of this phenomenon, Reuters states that nearly 600 asset owners, investment managers and professional service partners representing a total of USD18 billion have signed up to the Principles for Responsible Investment (PRI), a United Nations-led framework. Read more
