Singapore Compact Hopes To Motivate & Ingrain CSR Values

Mr. Thomas Thomas is Executive Director of the Singapore Compact for Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), which serves as the national CSR society in Singapore. Singapore Compact for CSR was launched in January 2005 as an outcome of the National Tripartite Initiative (NTI) on CSR, of which Thomas was the Co-chairperson. The NTI on CSR was established in May 2004 as a national CSR steering committee to bring forward and embrace CSR as a national movement in Singapore.

Mr. Thomas is also actively involved in the development of the ISO26000 international guidance standard on social responsibility. He is a member of the Chairman’s Advisory Group and Convenor of Singapore Working Group.

In light of the upcoming International Singapore Compact CSR Summit in Singapore, from 6 to 7 October 2009, the CSR Digest got Mr. Thomas’ views on a number of issues. Read more

A conversation with Prof Dr Mustaffa Mohamed Zain of UiTM

Professor Dr Mustaffa Mohamed Zain is one of Malaysia’s academic pioneers in corporate social responsibility (CSR). Having had his interest piqued by his undergraduate studies in social and environmental accounting, Prof Mustaffa moved into research and study of corporate social responsibility in the 1990s.

Now the Deputy Vice-Chancellor of University Teknologi MARA (UiTM), Prof Mustaffa specializes in Financial Reporting, Corporate, Disclosure, Financial Management and Accounting Education (in addition to corporate social responsibility in general).

Professor Mustaffa sat down with the CSR Digest recently to discuss CSR, the Bakun Dam, CSR in an economic downturn, the Madoff scandal and CSR and SMEs, among other things. Read more
