Consumers Continue to Embrace Ethical Shopping in Asia Pacific

More consumers across Asia Pacific are shopping with a conscience, according to the results of the latest MasterCard survey on Ethical Spending. Social responsibility and sustainability remain high on the agenda for the region’s shoppers with 70% of respondents saying that they made fair trade purchasing choices in the last two to three years. This is up from the region-wide figure of 66% last year. Some 55% of those polled also indicated that they were willing to pay more for products based on fair trade principles. Read more

Eye care volunteers journey to Syria to help those with poor eye sight

Innovation for green growth is the new mantra for advanced economies. From Australia to the United States, governments are pouring billions of dollars, euros and yen into eco-innovation programmes. The US has earmarked US$59 billion for green technologies as part of its stimulus packages; Australia has dedicated A$5.7 billion, while Canada has set aside C$2.8 billion for that purpose. Governments are also providing other incentives ranging from support for R&D activities to new regulations and standards on transport, buildings and manufacturing. The aim is to become greener while staying competitive, and to reach that delicate balance the OECD is working towards a Green Growth Strategy for its 30+ members. Read more

IEMA Workshop: An Accredited CSR Practitioners Workshop held by CSE in Dubai

The Centre for Sustainability and Excellence (CSE) hosted the 2nd annual IEMA Approved CSR Practitioner Workshop in Dubai, UAE. The workshop took place on 20 and 21 January 2010 at the Novotel World Trade Center venue.  CSR active practitioners, managers, and coordinators from leading organizations in the MENA region participated in the two-day workshop, receiving training in sustainable development, stakeholder approach & CSR, reporting, green & cause related marketing, et al.  The roundtable discussions were highly beneficial to all the participants who praised CSE for the workshop module schedule. Kuwait Finance House’s Second CSR Initiative
