Indonesian Palm Oil Giant partially cleared on green claim

A recent audit on PT SMART Tbk, revealed the Indonesian palm oil gian had not destroyed primary forest but had planted on carbon-rich deep peatlands. This partially clears the company of accusations by Greenpeace. SMART was reported to have said that the independent report showed a campaign by Greenpeace was exaggerated or wrong, but the audit found that the planting on deep peatlands, which trap greenhouse gases, contravenes Indonesian and SMART’s own regulations. Palm oil groups form coalition against critics

Malaysian and Indonesian palm oil producer formed a coalition in May in a bid to to counter campaigns blaming the industry for rapid deforestation in the region. The Indonesia-Malaysia Palm Oil Group comprises six organisations from the two countries, which account for 85 percent of global production. Read more

One-Man One Tree On Pramuka Island

IOI Plans For Green Certification In Indonesia

Following allegations that it is not observing sustainable palm oil practices in Indonesia, the IOI Corporation has stated that many of the assertions made are either untrue or misleading. In response to Malaysiakini‘s query, the Malaysian conglomerate’s representative, corporate communication manager, Karen Liew, stated that the report took the form of a unilateral investigation in which IOI was not given the opportunity to rebut its findings. Plant-A-Tree: Tabanan, Indonesia Project

With the support of Standard Chartered Bank, Plant-A-Tree Indonesia c/o BICG will begin a tree planting project to increase food supplies for native fauna in the Protected Forest on Mt Batucaru, Bali, Indonesia (in the Tabanan Regency). Unilever Stays Away From Indonesia Palm Oil Planter

Unilever, the world’s top palm oil buyer, has instructed dealers to stay away from palm oil sourced from Indonesian planter, Duta Palma, over its concerns about rainforest destruction, according to an Indonesian industry official. This move comes after BBC revealed Duta Palma allegedly clearing forests illegally, and is the second bid against Duta Palma in three months. Read more
