FedEx Express (FedEx), a subsidiary of FedEx Corp. and the world’s largest express transportation company, will kick off its fourth annual FedEx Cares Week in the Asia Pacific region. From September 17-25 FedEx volunteers in 12 Asia markets, including Australia, mainland China, Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, New Zealand, Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam, will donate their time to community groups and programs. This is part of a global FedEx initiative involving almost 4,000 employees around the world. Read more

Msian workers motivated to work for share in employer’s equity

A recent survey revealed that more than three-quarters of the Malaysian workforce believe they will be more productive if they have some form of ownership in their employers’ business. Workforce solution firm Kelly Services, in their Kelly Global Workforce Index (KGWI), found that 85 per cent of respondents felt that profit-sharing or an ownership stake would motivate them to perform better. Work-Life Balance: Only For Developed Countries?

The National Union of Bank Employee (NUBE) has launched a campaign to increase Malaysia’s current policy of 60 days maternity leave to for 90 days maternity leave in the public and private sectors. Human resource (HR) managers have rejected the initiative citing higher costs, negative effects for productivity and inconvenience; in their view, 60 days is sufficient for recovery and for looking for alternative plans for childcare. When interviewed, some HR managers have added that extended maternity leave might be fine for developed countries, but not for Malaysia. Read more
