ORBIS Completes Eye Care Training Program in Iloilo, Philippines

Today marks the end of the FedEx-sponsored OBRIS Flying Eye Hospital Program in Iloilo, Philippines.

In partnership with the Western Visayas Medical Center, the 18 visiting international volunteer faculty members, and with support from other Iloilo hospitals, the Flying Eye Hospital conducted an intensive skills-exchange and training program with 217 ophthalmic professionals. Over a two-week period from February 20 to March 2, 17 doctors, 10 nurses, and 15 technicians from the Western Visayas Region worked together to help save the sight of over 74 Filipinos, including 11 children. ORBIS and FedEx Conduct Sight-Saving Flying Eye Hospital Program in the Philippines

At the invitation of the Western Visayas Local Committee on Sight Preservation and with the generous sponsorship of FedEx Corp., ORBIS International landed its flagship Flying Eye Hospital – a converted DC-10 aircraft and the world’s only ophthalmic surgical and training hospital with wings – in Iloilo, Philippines. ORBIS will conduct a three-week medical program to increase the clinical and surgical abilities of local eye care providers in the Western Visayas Region. Read more

Conscience shopping across Southeast Asia remains strong with a number of countries leading the region in purchasing products that are environmentally friendly and observe fair trade principles, according to the latest MasterCard survey on ethical spending. The survey was conducted via online interviews between 5 December 2011 and 6 January 2012 and involved 12,500 consumers from 25 markets1 across Asia/Pacific, Middle East and Africa.  Read more
