Colgate-Palmolive Marketing Sdn Bhd (Colgate), a leading brand in dental care, launched its fourth annual instalment of the ‘Mari Beramal Bersama Colgate’ campaign with a fun-filled day for orphans at Zoo Negara on 23 July 2011.

The launch was officiated by Yang Berusaha Encik Harjeet Singh a/l Hardev Singh, Deputy Chief Secretary – Strategic, Ministry of Women, Family and Community Development and Yang Berusaha Wan Noraidah bt. Wan Mohd. Zain, Director of Community Development for the Social Welfare Department of Malaysia, and was attended by almost 300 children and representatives from welfare homes all over the country who were specially invited to the event.

Mr. Issam Bachaalani, Managing Director of Colgate-Palmolive Marketing Sdn Bhd said, “Ramadan is a time to reflect on the blessings we enjoy in life, and with this gratitude in mind, to give generously to those who are less fortunate. This same intention was what inspired us at Colgate-Palmolive few years ago, to conceive the ‘Mari Beramal Bersama Colgate’ campaign, which we are glad to say continues to grow in strength and support.”

“This campaign exemplifies the spirit of generosity during the holy month of Ramadan, and is Colgate’s way of giving back to the community by helping improve the overall welfare of less fortunate children by providing consumers the opportunity to give charitably simply by purchasing toothpaste – a daily necessity,” Bachaalani added.

Since 2008, Colgate has collected a total of RM386,000 over three campaigns. Last year’s highly successful ‘Mari Beramal Bersama Colgate’ campaign garnered a whopping total of RM200,000, exceeding the original target of RM120,000 for 12 orphanages. The contribution was handed over to the Social Welfare Department of Malaysia at a ceremony officiated by Y.B. Dato’ Sri Shahrizat Abdul Jalil, Minister of Women, Family and Community Development in February this year and subsequently distributed to the 12 selected orphanages from around the country.

This year, Colgate is aiming to up its contribution target to RM150,000 for 15 orphanages around the country including Sabah and Sarawak that are under the Social Welfare Department, with the introduction of charity packs of Colgate Kayu Sugi 175g and Colgate Maximum Cavity Protection 175g toothpastes. The ‘Mari Beramal Bersama Colgate’ campaign will run from August 1st 2011 to September 30th 2011 in conjunction with the holy month of Ramadan, where every purchase of the special charity packs during the campaign period will set aside RM0.10 (single packs) or RM0.20 (twin packs) for distribution to the selected orphanages.

In En. Harjeet Singh’s officiating speech, he said, “The ‘Mari Beramal Bersama Colgate’ campaign and others like these contribute to the development of strong and resilient communities and are always welcomed and supported by the Ministry for the commendable initiative shown. I hope many more from the private sector emulate Colgate’s commitment to the well-being of the society and care for those who are less fortunate.”

Mr Bachaalani added, “Colgate aims to increase the contribution goal this year because we believe in the difference it can make in the lives of the children. This year’s goal may sound challenging to most but we are confident that we will be able to achieve it with the generosity demonstrated by Malaysians throughout the years.”

This year’s launch of the ‘Mari Beramal Bersama Colgate’ campaign at Zoo Negara was centred on the theme of education, with fun activities that were aimed to kick-start their passion for learning. Among the activities that the children took part in throughout the day were art activities, animal shows, oral health care demonstrations, and other fun games.

“We at Colgate are thrilled and excited as the ‘Mari Beramal Bersama Colgate’ campaign reiterates our commitment of sharing and giving. We are committed to enhancing the quality of life for the people in the communities we serve throughout the world, together with the generous support of the Government, our partners, and our valued customers. We want to encourage the public to use this campaign as a stepping stone for their charitable deeds during the holy month,” Mr Bachaalani said.

Colgate has a strong commitment to caring and social responsibility. Colgate’s annual activities include the Bright Smiles, Bright Futures programme which provides oral care education and free product samples to over 500,000 Malaysian schoolchildren. Another is the Oral Health Month which is held in partnership with the Malaysian Dental Association to provide free dental check-ups, education and awareness on proper oral health care to Malaysians throughout the country. Colgate is also a consistent supporter of the Sahabat Korporat Tabung Haji programme for Malaysian hajj pilgrims.
