The 2010 Multi-Brand Factory Compliance Summit will be held in DongGuan, the People’s Republic of China (PRC) from 7-9 December. Over 800 people representing over 27 Brands will be at the event to learn from the world’s compliance leaders how to better manage corporate sustainability and compliance in their factories.

The largest apparel and footwear brands in the world, including Nike, Disney, WalMart, Levi’s, Ambercrombie, Marks & Spencer, Under Armour and others are inviting factories from around the southeast Asia region to attend this conference with the expectations that they will improve working conditions in their factories.

Keynote Speakers include Ma Jun, one of Time Magazine’s 100 Most Influential People of 2006, Auret van Heerden, President of the Fair Labor Association (FLA), and Lance Ewing, Risk Manager of the Year in 2007 and VP at Chartis International. Other speakers include Brand Managers, NGOs, Government Representatives and other Industry Leaders.

In March of 2010, the event organiser, Sumerra, held a similar event in Bangalore, India. At this event over 450 people representing 23 Brands joined together. Due to the overwhelming positive response, Sumerra, at the request of the Brands, is organizing this second event for China. One attendee at the India summit stated:

It was great to see the different Brands joining together to discuss these issues. It makes me realize that we must do something or we will be left behind.

Several months after the event was held, an audit was completed at a factory that attended the conference. Their audit results were significantly higher. They stated:

At the Factory Summit we were able to learn how to better manager Compliance, and some things that we could do to lower our risks. Attending that conference directly resulted in a better audit score.
