Bursa Malaysia Bhd recently organised a dialogue with industry captains to highlight sustainable business practices. Other aims of the dialogue, ran in collaboration with Conservation International, were to improve corporate social responsibility (CSR) and environmental issues in Malaysia, according to a Bursa Malaysia statement.
Various sectors were represented at the dialogue, including utilities, oil and gas, telecommunications, plantation and financial services. News reports quoted Bursa Malaysia’s chief executive officer, Datuk Yusli Mohamed Yusoff, as saying:
Sustainable business practice is the key to long-term value. There is already a wide recognition of CSR among corporations to business sustainability in our country.
Being a member of the Asia Pacific Business and Sustainability Council is a step for us to learn to contribute positively to our society and the environment. I hope more industry leaders will join us in this meaningful initiative.
Conservation International recently formed the Asia Pacific Business and Sustainability Council, a body which provides opportunities for companies to contribute towards conservation initiatives.
Yusli was reported to have said that the dialogue stressed on the importance of corporate sustainability, further to the national agenda of promoting the green industries.
