Standard Chartered Singapore Raises Environmental Awareness With Special Needs

103 MINDSville@Napiri residents and 100 Standard Chartered Bank staff gathered at Pasir Ris Beach on 18 June 2010 morning and participated in the cleaning up of the beach.

This creative community project is organised by Standard Chartered volunteers to help MINDSville@Napiri residents (a special needs community) know more about the environment and also have a chance to give back to society by participating in the beach clean-up.

All participants made hats and garbage bins using old newspapers, adding an educational and fun aspect to the project. Using recycled materials is also a wonderful way for the residents and volunteers to learn about recycling efforts and pick up a handicraft skill on this day.

Tracie Lim, Manager, Service and Risk Management, Standard Chartered Bank, who was also a volunteer, said:

This project has been a very fulfilling experience for me. The 10-year old who was tagged to me is an extremely lively and happy boy and I am very fortunate to have this opportunity to interact with him and do something good for the environment.

MINDSville@Napiri is a multi-service centre in Lorong Napiri run by MINDS (Movement for the Intellectually Disabled of Singapore). With a total capacity of about 310, the centre provides residential, training and rehabilitative services which promote quality of life and social integration for persons with intellectual disability.
