Malaysian Power Company Works Towards CSR Award in Education

Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB), Malaysia energy provider, is eyeing the Prime Minister’s Corporate Social Responsibility Award in Education by 2015.

Through its social arm, Yayasan Tenaga Nasional (YTN), has allocated more than RM600 million since 1993, benefitting more than 7,000 Malaysian students.

YTN director, Azman Zakaria, told Bernama that TNB’s corporate social responsibility fforts in empowering education was geared towards tertiary education and welfare. Bernama quoted him as saying:

Overall, we strive to maintain sustainability of the programmes to ensure that the students get the best in quality education… This is in line with our goal to win the PM’s CSR education award in the next five years.

TNB allocates RM9.1 million in scholarships on an annual basis for students to study in countries like Canada (15 students), Britain (19), Australia (30) and New Zealand (5).

Another RM1 million goes to those who pursue their studies at public learning institutions, while RM5 million is for those at University Tenaga Nasional (Uniten), the energy giant’s own university.
