With the support of Standard Chartered Bank, Plant-A-Tree Indonesia c/o BICG will begin a tree planting project to increase food supplies for native fauna in the Protected Forest on Mt Batucaru, Bali, Indonesia (in the Tabanan Regency). The project is entirely funded by Standard Chartered as part of the bank’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives.
Plant-A-Tree Indonesia and BICG will be planting 4,000 native trees trees in Tabanan, working with the Forestry Department and local communities to make the project a success.
This project proposes to plant the 4,000 trees in the forest adjacent to the village, Desa Sarinbuana in the Tabanan Regency. The people of Sarinbuana decided some time ago to protect the forest for which they are responsible. It is considered to be perhaps the best example so far of a local community committing to forest preservation. This is, in part, also due to the recent development of ecotourism in the area. The key principal is conservation, preserving what is left and concentrating the reforestation on the most threatened species. The parallel development is an expected increase in ecotourism activity based on the good condition of the forest, and the resulting sustained involvement by the local community.
