Mercy Malaysia launched a website recently to collect donations in aid of Haiti’s recent earthquake victims. The www.malaysiaforhaiti.org website provides updates from Haiti, by way of collaboration with Merlin, a UK charitable organisation, which is currently in Haiti for relief work.Mercy president, Dr Ahmad Faizal Mohd Perdaus, was reported to have said that, through the partnership, the fund would be channelled directly to the survivors, while the celebrities would raise funds through messages in the website. Viewers and supporters might also choose to buy merchandises, such as t-shirts and wristbands, as well as watching their favourite celebrities appealing for donations through video logs.
The funds raised will go towards providing water purifying tablets, packets of oral re-hydration salts to help save the lives of people suffering from diarrhoea, dehydration due to drinking contaminated water, hand-pumps to provide an entire community with safe drinking water and high-protein porridge mix to provide crucial nutrition to victims.
The website was launched by Mercy honorary secretary Raja Riza Shazmin Raja Badrul Shah. To read Mercy’s press release, click here.
