Businesses in the city are urged to organise ‘gotong-royong‘ programmes in residential areas as part of their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). ‘Gotong-roying‘ is a term used to describe a group of volunteers who clean and spruce up a particular neighbourhood.
Federal Territory and Urban Wellbeing Minister, Datuk Raja Nong Chik Raja Zainal Abidin, was reported to have said that there are few of such programmes in the city’s housing areas. He was reported to have also said that these programmes could enhance ties between residents and organising companies.
Raja Nong Chik was reported to have said this at a news conference after launching the D’Puncak Gotong-Royong programme organised by Tanjung Offshore Bhd, with the cooperation of the Puncak Setiawangsa Residents Association recently.
At the event, Tanjung Offshore chairman Senator Datuk Wira Syed Ali Al-Habshee presented a contribution of RM10,000 to Raja Nong Chik in the latter’s capacity as chairman of the Yayasan Wilayah Persekutuan (YWP) fund.
The minister was reported to have said that YWP did not get any funds from the government and that it was an independent body to eradicate poverty in the federal territories. He explained that, aside from helping the poor in the federal territory of Kuala Lumpur, YWP plans to assist hawkers and provide burial expenses in the future.
