Malakoff Allocates RM12 Million For CSR Programme

Malakoff Corporation Bhd is allocating RM12 million to carry out corporate social responsibility (CSR) programmes over the next three years, according to Bernama. Its Chairman, Tan Sri Abdul Halim Ali, was reported to have said that the independent power and water company would focus a substantially on education, environment and sports under the Malakoff Community Partnership programme.Abdul Halim was quoted as saying:

This is our long-term commitment to become a responsible and active participant of our community.

Abdul Halim also said Malakoff spent RM10 million this year on CSR, which included RM4.8 million for human capital development and RM3.5 million for the initial kick-off of the programme. According to reports, Malakoff would place its community outreach programme under a single and comprehensive programme to make it more effective.

The company’s CSR programme was launched by Minister of Women, Family and Community Development, Datuk Seri Shahrizat Abdul Jalil recently. The minister was reported to have said the economic downturn should not be used as an excuse by companies to remove CSR programmes from their priority list. According to the news report, she said the company’s top management should ask their employees to go to the ground to implement CSR activities.

She was quoted as saying:

CSR is not always about money. It’s about committment, time, ideas and dedication and that is what we want now.
