Looking for a holiday gift with a difference? The following are a number of Malaysian corporates who have tied up with certain causes to give you the opportunity to give a little something extra during the holidays.SPCA Calendar 2010

Malaysian celebrities and their pets grace the Malaysian National Animal Welfare Foundation and the SPCA’s 2010 Animal Charity Calendar. Available at various bookstores, such as MPH, Popular and Borders bookstores, for RM19.90, it is said that RM10 will be directed to the Society for the Protection of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) and Malaysian National Animal Welfare Foundation (MNAWF).

Petronas Giftcard

The SPCA Selangor is assisted by Petronas in this Giftcard, launched in mid-October. The pre-paid giftcard donates to SPCA when you fuel up at Petronas. Buy a giftcard from SPCA (RM5) and top up your card at the nearest Petronas station for a minimum of RM50 to activate the card. RM0.02 cents per litre pumped using the giftcard will be donated to SPCA. The cards are also available via www.spca.org.my.

Reusable Bags @ Tesco

Tesco is offering reusable bags, designed by Rizalman Ibrahim. Made out of recycled plastic bottles, part of the proceeds goes to Malaysian Nature Society. The blue and white bags go fro RM4.99 with RM0.50 going to the Malaysian Nature Society’s GREENaid programme, an initiative in support of conservation and educational activities for Malaysia’s natural heritage. Only 50,000 of the bags will be produced and are available at all Tesco stores.

New Beginnings For Children

The Westin Kuala Lumpur’s “Spark A New Beginning” campaign seeks to help the expansion of Agathians Shelter. To help more children, the shelter needs at least RM55,000 to fund the basic necessities of a new home. All you need to do is purchase an ornament from the live Christmas Tree in the hotel’s lobby for RM50 each.

Adopt An Animal

The World Wide Fund for Nature Malaysia’s animal adoption packs are unique gifts this holiday season. Each adoption kit has a soft toy, a personalized adoption certificate, a reusable gift bag, four WWF “Green Heart” magazines, informational leaflet and tax-deductable receipt. By purchasing an adoption pack for RM210 (includes postage), your contribution will help support WWF-Malaysia’s conservation efforts to save endangered species and habitats.

Ginger Bread In Aid Of Cancer

Hotel Nikko Kuala Lumpur’s Christmas project is in aid of the National Cancer Society of Malaysia. Purchase gingerbreads from the Christmas tree at the Deli for RM10++ each, and you’ll be assisting the cancer foundation. Furthermore, for every RM100 spent on a single receipt in any of the restaurants, Hotel Nikko Kuala Lumpur will pledge RM2 towards the organisation.

Sustainable Forest Management The French Way

French stationary company, Clairefontaine, promotes sustainable forest management (visit pefc.org for more). Sales of their eco-friendly paper products also support UNICEF’s schooling projects for disadvantaged children with the construction of schools, the training of teachers and the supply of school materials. From RM40 inwards, you can find a selection of these notebooks at CzipLee Plus (www.czipplus.com).
