Crown Relocations UK, an international relocation and transportation specialist, plans to plant more than 2,200 trees in Thailand which will capture over 1,800 metric tons of carbon (equivalent to the annual CO2 emissions from nearly 125 UK households) to combat climate change. The programme, in collaboration with the Plant-A-Tree Today (PATT) Foundation, is an attempt to offset the carbon emissions from its UK facilities by planting trees.
Steve Slade, Crown’s Quality Compliance Manager for the UK & Ireland was quoted as saying:
This partnership allows us the opportunity to do something proactive about climate change by planting trees. It also enables us to improve the lives of disadvantaged people in their communities. It’s good to know that there are win-win solutions like this, where companies like Crown Relocations can help to alleviate poverty and contribute to a greener future. It means that fulfilling our corporate social responsibly is more meaningful than just buying carbon credits.
The project with the PATT Foundation also means that Crown Relocations will benefit rural Thai communities, as money is donated to the villagers in exchange for planting trees and continuing to protect and maintain them. The scheme then enables villagers to access credit to allow them to start businesses or run community projects.◊
