Malaysia’s Satellite TV Operator, Astro, helped to demolish and rebuild Wan Suraini’s house within a week. The family, who had lived in the dilapidated house for more than 16 years, received a new home through the corporation’s corporate social responsibility wing, Astro Kasih.
The company launched the CSR programme in Kampung Setapang Tengah recently, where Wan Suraini and her children reside. Present at the home handover function was Malaysian Prime Minister, Najib Tun Razak, Astro All Asia Networks chairman, Datuk Badri Masri, chief executive officer Rohana Rozhan and more than 40 employees.
Najib was reported to have said:
I am pleased to see that caring attitudes and benevolent initiatives such as Astro Kasih are being practised by corporate bodies in Malaysia… The practise of 1Malaysia where people of all the races come together to help one another is truly praiseworthy.
Badri was also reported to have presented a cheque for RM100,000 to Yayasan Rahah to purchase a mobile clinic, which would enable the foundation’s volunteers to provide medical care to the community.◊
