One hundred students from under-privileged backgrounds have been sponsored by Sentral Technology College, Penang. These secondary students from ten different schools statewide have been given RM10,000 to motivate them in their studies.
Sentral Technology College chief executive officer and principal, Dr Chiang Geok Lian, was reported to have said the students will receive the cash aid which is meant for the students’ school expenses. Dr Chiang also was reported to have said that he hoped that the aid will show them that someone cares. Dr Chiang was quoted as saying:
We contributed RM6,000 while the rest came from a recent charity carnival organised by the college.
State Education Department head of Human Resources Management and Development Sector, Osman Hussain, presented the cash aid to the students during a donation ceremony at the college’s premises recently. Sentral College is the state regional centre for UNITAR (Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman) and currently has about 800 students.
