MASwings, the largest unit of Malaysia Airlines’ Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme, is happy to have flights within Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines-East Asean Growth Area (BIMP-EAGA), according to its managing director Mohd Salleh Ahmad Tabrani.
According to Mohd Salleh, the matter will be looked into if the Transport Ministry requests routes between Sabah, Sarawak, Brunei, Indonesia and the Philippines.
Mohd Salleh was reported to have said that MASwings’ remaining eight Fokker 50 aircraft would be replaced by 10 ATR 72-500 planes by April next year, with two more new aircraft coming in by the end of the year.
Mohd Salleh was reported to have said that MASwings has been entrusted by the government to provide service routes in the rural areas. He was quoted as saying:
That is why we are offering the lowest fares to our passengers to ensure everyone can afford to fly to destinations where most other airlines do not.
MASwings offers fares from as low as RM59, according to Mohd Salleh. Furthermore, the company’s On-Time Performance was at a 92 per cent record for 2008 and to date. Since its launch in October 2007, Mohd Salleh was reported to have said that MASwings had flown more than 60,000 passengers a month on average and operated approximately 700 flights a week.
